The UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) reported that hunger has surged in northern Nigeria due to renewed jihadist attacks and instability. The agency shared footage showing medical treatment and food distribution in the region.
Emmanuel Bigenimana, WFP head said Hunger is now reaching levels we have not seen in years. If families cannot eat and fear continues to grow, desperation will take hold. Armed groups can use that desperation to tighten their grip, putting the wider region even at greater risk."
Attacks have disrupted access to food and services, worsening malnutrition and raising the risk of wider regional instability.
