Hundreds of migrants rescued in central Med. Sea

The NGO Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) rescued 371 migrants in the central Mediterranean during five separate different operations this week. The rescued people remained onboard the MSF ship Geo Barents as they waited for a safe port to disembark.

Three pregnant women and 55 minors, including a 1-month old baby, were among those who were rescued. More than 29,000 people have died on migration journeys to Europe since 2014, with 5,000 perishing in the last two years, according to the International Organization for Migration.
