Humanitarian Assistance: Meeting with the UNOCHA delegation

Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe received a delegation led by Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator-the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) Mr. Tom Fletcher at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on 6 April.

During the meeting, the Under-Secretary-General informed that international communities have pledged 93 million US dollar as donation and UN Central Emergency Relief Fund has allocated 5 million US dollar to the people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar. By utilizing those funds, the UN will send more staff for on-ground implementation.

Furthermore, they exchanged views on matters related to the UN response to losses and destructions due to the devastating earthquake in Myanmar that struck on 28 March, and enhancing the cooperation between Myanmar and the UN. After the meeting, all the delegates observed a one-minute silence for the losses of lives and properties caused by the recent earthquake in Myanmar.
