






The Human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination programme was launched on Tuesday for girls aged 9 to 12 years at the Ministry of Health in the presence of Union Minister for Education Dr. Nyunt Pe, Union Minister for Health Prof. Dr. Thet Khaing Win and many other concerned officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister for Education Dr. Nyunt Pe stressed that the Ministry has been making lists of persons who are eligible to receive HPV vaccination, sending invitation to receive vaccination, obtaining parental consents and systematic preparation for vaccination sites.
Also, in his speech, Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win said that according to the statistics, the worldwide incidence of cervical cancer is 13.3 cases per 100,000 women, causing 6.9 deaths. 90% of fatality occurs in least developing countries and leads to the high fatality rate.
Through vaccination, the infection rate of Human papilloma virus can be eliminated by 83%, he added. And, the team led by the Union Ministers visited the No. 6, Basic Education High School of Zabuthiri Township in Nay Pyi Taw, inspected HPV vaccination and presented gifts.
HPV vaccination is the 13th disease prevention programme in Myanmar. The HPV vaccination programme (2023) is implemented on a school basis in August and September and on a community basis in October 2023, it’s reported.
