Mourners placed flowers at a memorial in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district nearly a week after a devastating fire tore through the Wang Fuk Court residential complex, killing at least 151 people, including pets.

The incident is now considered the city’s deadliest blaze in decades. Officials say substandard building materials helped accelerate the spread of the fire. Hong Kong’s leader has announced that an independent committee will investigate the cause and review safety standards across the complex.
