A massive bamboo altar built for a long-standing traditional festival in Hong Kong has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind. The altar was set up in Kam Tin to celebrate the area’s once-in-a decade festival that began last week.

The structure, using around 30,000 bamboo poles, is more than 30 meters high and covers an area of about 3,900 square meters. Construction took two months. Decorated with colorful ornaments, the altar features traditional puppet plays, operas and other performances to be held on a special stage.
