Honduras' Defence Minister says 'firm commitment' against organized crime

Members of the National Defense and Security Council expressed their firm commitment to continue the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking by bringing those responsible for these crimes to national justice. Honduran Defense Minister José Manuel Zelaya made a remark, a day before he announced his resignation.

Zelaya resigned shortly after his father, Congressman Carlos Zelaya, brother-in-law of President Xiomara Castro, said he will submit to an investigation into alleged links to drug trafficking. President Castro ended this week an extradition treaty with the United States that has been used to imprison drug traffickers.
