New Zealand's ruling Labour Party formally endorsed Chris Hipkins to succeed Jacinda Ardern as prime minister on Sunday. Hipkins said he had dedicated his working life to the "service" of New Zealand.

Hipkins added his government "will bring a strong clarity, sense of purpose and priority to helping New Zealanders through this tough economic time." Hipkins will be formally sworn in as the 41st prime minister of New Zealand on Wednesday. The Labour Party also selected Carmel Sepuloni as the country’s new deputy prime minister.
