Residents of Helmand province in Afghanistan have long faced significant challenges in accessing reliable electricity.  The Kajaki Dam, a crucial hydroelectric facility located on the Helmand River, has historically provided power to Helmand and neighboring Kandahar provinces. However, ongoing security issues and political disputes have hindered its full operational capacity.

In response to these challenges, some residents have taken initiatives to generate their own electricity. In districts like Nad Ali, villagers have installed small turbines in irrigation canals, producing power for lighting and other household needs. These community-driven projects have improved daily life but are limited in scope and sustainability.
