Heavy rains wreaked havoc in regions of Chile and Peru this week, causing rivers to overflow and forcing residents from their flooded homes. In Chile's northern Antofagasta region, rural areas such as Conchi, Chiu-Chiu and Calama were hid hard after rushing floodwaters swept through residential areas.
In neighbouring Peru, officials reported at least ten people have been killed nationally from the heavy rain and subsequent floods. In response, the government is mobilising over 50 tonnes of aid for victims.
