Heavy rains cause floods and landslides in northern India

The northern region of India is witnessing heavy rains and landslides as authorities rush to rescue and assist people affected by disasters. As of Tuesday, at least 50 people missing after flash floods in Himalayan town and at least four people were killed.

Due to a surge of muddy water, multi-storey apartment blocks were swept away in Uttarakhand state. The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert warning for the area, and recorded "extremely heavy" rainfall of around 21 centimetres in isolated parts of Uttarakhand.
