Heavy rains and snow as winter storm hits northeast US

The northeastern United States was engulfed by snow as a powerful winter storm battered the region, blanketing New York for the first time in two years and causing flight cancellations and school closures.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a warning for strong winds, heavy snowfall and coastal flooding by the "Nor'easter" storm along portions of the East Coast.
