Heavy rainfall across western Türkiye

Heavy rainfall over the weekend triggered flooding across western Türkiye. One of the Aegean region’s most vital water sources — overflowed after months of near-drought conditions. Agricultural fields, including newly planted alfalfa crops, were inundated.

The Gediz River and its tributaries also flooded, submerging thousands of acres of farmland, vineyards and orchards, and causing water to enter some homes. Damage assessment operations are set to begin in affected areas.
