Heatwave in France: Scenes from the Banks of the Rhône in Lyon

People exercise along the banks of the Rhône River in Lyon as a new wave of stifling summer heat begins in France. State forecaster Météo France has placed 11 departments on a tier-three orange warning (the second-highest possible) for canicule, or heatwave, warnings on August 8.

Extreme temperatures are forecast this weekend in France as the latest heatwave of the summer enters full swing.  On Saturday, this rises to 17, as the hot air primarily responsible continues to settle over the southern half of the country.
