Healthcare Sector: Center for Disease Control and Medical Training Center

On behalf of the Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister, Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe, members of the State Administration Council, Union ministers and many other officials as well as the Chinese Ambassador, officials from the China CDC and representatives from the ASEAN member states attended the opening of Myanmar National Center for Disease Control and Medical Training Center on Thursday in Dekhinathiri Township.

After ceremonially opening the Center, the Secretary and party viewed round the rooms in the building including meeting rooms, biosafety level laboratories, Department of Epidemiological Surveillance System and dormitories for trainees.

At the theatre, the Secretary stressed that it is important that the basic and important public health care activities by the Ministry of Health need to be carried out by competent health workers with international level quality.

Due to the climate change,  migration of people and changing lifestyles, new infectious diseases occur. There is a resurgence of previously existing infectious diseases. It is necessary for health workers to have high efficiency and be able to use innovative technologies professionally for prevention of health problems and response activities. As a symbol of bilateral friendship between Myanmar and the People's Republic of China, the Chinese government of helped to establish this Center.

The Center will focus on the prevention, response and control of various natural disasters and public health emergencies that may occur throughout Myanmar. As a special feature, as the Myanmar CDC was jointly built with the Medical Training Center, it will be able to deliver high-quality public health courses and turn out high-quality new generation health human resources. The Secretary also expressed words of thanks to the Chinese Government for its assistance to establish the Center.

Also, the Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai made an explanation on the Myanmar National Center for Disease Control and Medical Training Center and handed over the Center-related documents to the Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win.

In return, the Union Minister presented a certificate of honour to the Ambassador. Also, memorable gifts were presented to the SAC Secretary, the Chinese Ambassador and the leader of the Chinese Team.
