Health Sector Development: 2nd Myanmar Radiation Oncology Conference

2nd Myanmar Radiation Oncology Conference commenced in Yangon on Saturday. Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win attended the opening ceremony and made a speech.

With the theme “State-of-the-Art of Hypofractio-nated Radiotherapy: Beyond Feasibility and Compliance”, the 2nd Myanmar Radiation Oncology Conference is scheduled to be held for two days from January 11th and 12ththrough hybrid system. Experts from Myanmar, Russia, Indonesia, Thailand and Britain share the experience on innovation and development in cancer treatment during the conference. There will displays of 13 posters and 23 booths on the medical subjects.

The statistics of World Health Organization estimation show that during 2022, there are 135 cancer patients out of 100,000 individuals of same aged group, with 97 deaths in Myanmar.  With the guidance of the government, the Ministry of Health is striving to provide treatment to cancer patients at the People’s Hospitals in Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Taunggyi.

During 2024-2025 fiscal year, about 12 billion kyats budget in purchasing medicines for cancer treatment. In addition, the National Cancer Treatment Center is scheduled to open in Dagon Seikkan Township in Yangon for convenience of the patients.
