Health chief hails ‘historic milestone’ in race to avert next pandemic

The World Health Organization welcomed “historic” commitment shown by global leaders, at the UN General Assembly, when they approved a political declaration on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

Speaking during the high-level meeting in New York, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, DrTedrosAdhanom Ghebreyesus thanked the President and all Member States of the General Assembly, saying “this is a very historic day”. UN Member States on Wednesday pledged to prevent a repeat of the devastating health and socioeconomic crises caused by COVID-19 and shore up the world’s ability to head off another pandemic.
