





Myanmar-Thai Transboundary Haze Pollution Prevention Committee held the 2nd work coordination meeting at the Ministry of Defence on 13th November.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the committee Deputy Minister for Defence Major General Ko Lay, Vice Chairman of the committee Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Min Thu, committee members and many other concernted officials.
The Committee Chairman stressed that it’s necessary to implement projects under the Joint Plan of Action – CLEAR Sky Strategy such as wildfire controlling and monitoring system, agricultural sustainable management system, law enforcement, coordination and implementation, complying with the existing international and domestic laws.
He added that it's important to continue public awareness raising campaign on wildfire and open waste burning while initiating the systematic waste management and burning waste using waste burning equipment. He also called for the concerted efforts of the relevant departments on monitoring Fire Hotspots and measuring air quality.
Next, the Deputy Minister U Min Thu encouraged the committee members to actively participate in conducting haze pollution prevention measures not only in Myanmar-Thai border but also across the nation. Then, the secretary of the committee clarified the completed tasks on decisions made in previous 1st meeting, reducing fire hotspots and controlling haze pollution in border areas.
The committee members also made sector-wise discussions and presented reports on current work implementations. The meeting was concluded with the closing remarks of the Chairman of the Committee.
