Sébastien Lecornu was appointed as the new French defense minister on Friday following a cabinet reshuffle. In a handover ceremony with the outgoing defense minister Florence Parly, Lecornu spoke about the importance of a strong military at a time when France was engaged in a fight against terrorism in Africa.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced a new cabinet on Friday which included a new foreign minister. Led by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, who was named on Monday, the Cabinet's top priority will be trying to secure the parliamentary majority that Macron needs to implement the policy proposals that he campaigned on in last month's presidential election.
