On March 28, at 12:51 PM, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale struck with epicenter about 21 kilometers to the northeast of Mandalay seismic station. Due to the earthquake, the National Disaster Management Committee declared a state of emergency in response to the natural disaster.

The Singapore Red Cross Society donated rescue equipment to Myanmar for the regions affected by the earthquake. The donation included solar-powered lamps and clean water machines in a total of 47 containers, and 1,518 kg of supplies. These items were handed over to Myanmar’s officials by Mr. Tan Ming Jun Benedict, the Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor at the Singapore Embassy in Myanmar, and other responsible personnel. The equipment was transferred to the Director U Than Soe and other relevant officials from the Disaster Management Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement. The handover ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Government Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Region Government Ministers, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Director-General U Zaw Phyo Win of the Strategy and Research Training Department, along with other responsible officials.

The donated rescue equipment was loaded onto vehicles by military personnel, staff from the Yangon City Development Committee, and local workers, and then transported to earthquake-affected areas under the supervision of the Yangon Region Government, with further delivery to Nay Pyi Taw.
