Hand-made Lanterns: Decoration with customized design

Traditional colored lantern business is one of the Myanmar handicraft arts and these seasonal products are sold all over Myanmar depending on the local demand during Thadingyut period.

They are being sold in different sizes and designs. For the children who used to play with them, such Myanmar traditional handmade colorful lanterns using bamboo strips and papers are attractive and providing high demands for the makers and sellers across the country.

Aside from the traditional lanterns, people also decorate their homes with the use of the colorful lantern imported from China.

People also order their customized designed lanterns to decorate their homes during this significant festival.

Among them are from Made In Myanmar – Posticks Art, which create the customized design lanterns with the frame, made of plywood or popsticks.

Founder, Made In Myanmar – Popsticks Art, Yi Mon Aye said "During Thadingyut season, people mostly decorate with the lanterns imported from China. So, I came up with the idea of creating my own hand-made lantern design. Also for the customers, they will have a customized design of hand-made lantern according to their orders. Some people order to create with the images of pagoda and temple while some with their family photos or their loved ones. I also create my hand-made lanterns for long term use. We can make around 40 lanterns per day depending on the numbers of orders."

During Thadingyut lighting festival, pagodas, homes, streets and several places across the country are decorated with electric lights, colourful lanterns, candles and many more with different ways of lights.
