Haiti quake death toll rises to 15, and 300 injured

10 October 2018

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Saturday has killed 15 people, injured another 300 and destroyed 40 houses, the head of the Caribbean country's civil protection agency said on Monday. Four people were killed in the town of Gros Morne to the south, local authorities said, including a woman who died from a heart attack suffered after the quake.

A school called "Saint Gabriel" was completely destroyed. The tremor caused widespread panic in the north and was one of the strongest to shake Haiti since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck near the capital in 2010.
