UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the ongoing ceasefire in Gaza, based on US President Donald J. Trump’s proposal, which includes the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees.

UN agencies are scaling up operations across Gaza, delivering life-saving aid to previously cut-off communities. Guterres highlighted the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, the United States, and Türkiye, and the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross in ensuring safe releases.

The Secretary-General urged all parties to consolidate the ceasefire and pursue lasting peace, calling for a credible political process toward two independent states, “Israel and Palestine” with Jerusalem as the capital of both. He also welcomed the release of remaining live Israeli hostages during a phone call with President Isaac Herzog.
