Guest-Welcoming Pagoda Festivals: Century old tradition in Chaung Sone Township

Chaung Sone Township (Bilu Island) in Mon State is famous for its Guest-Welcoming Pagoda Festivals during the time of Myanmar New Year.

On Saturday, the festival was celebrated in Kuan Yaik Village where Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein and state ministers observed the festive activities. During the festival, every homes served the visitors with various foods. These festivals have been celebrated with great festivity for over 100 years. Commenced on the Eve-day of Thingyan, April 13, the festival period lasted for about 1 month, with two to three villages celebrating each day.
