Climate and energy ministers of the Group of Seven advanced economies met for talks in the Japanese city of Sapporo on Saturday. They aim to reach agreement on the best way forward in battling climate change.

The ministers also hope to draft a communique for a G-7 summit in May, despite differences over how and how quickly to end carbon emissions. Japan has focused its own national strategy on clean coal, hydrogen and nuclear energy. The talks in Sapporo will also focus on biodiversity loss and other global challenges. The gathering will also be attended by officials from India, Indonesia and the UAE, which chair the Group of 20, ASEAN and COP28 respectively.
