




Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice-Senior General Soe Win on Monday attended the Green Development Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) at the Qingdao International Conference Center in Qingdao of Shandong Province in China.
Before the Forum, the Vice-Senior General viewed the booths on display by member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in commemoration of the Green Development Forum. In his address at the opening of the Forum, the Vice-Senior General stressed the need to preserve the environment to prevent damage caused by humans.
Green development standards are of great importance in promoting sustainable development worldwide. Green development and investment activities are being carried out in Myanmar for long-term socio-economic development by improving the environment and ecological system.
He also highlighted the importance of proper land management when implementing green developments. In order to achieve the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement, Myanmar is working to reduce climate change at the national level. In order to fight against climate change, Myanmar will focus on increasing public-private cooperation in the implementation of low-carbon investment activities, the Vice-Senior General added.
And, an announcement on the regional green development partnership and a leadership initiative to jointly promote a sustainable future was made. It’s followed by sector-wise discussions. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a permanent intergovernmental international organization established in 2001 in Shanghai.
The goals are to strengthen mutual trust, friendship and good-neighborliness between the Member States, to encourage the effective cooperation between the Member States in such spheres as politics, trade, economy, science and technology, culture, education, energy, transport, tourism, environmental protection, to jointly ensure and maintain peace, security and stability in the region and to promote a new democratic, fair and rational international political and economic international order.
