Greek PM Mitsotakis announces national elections

Greece’s president approved a request by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Saturday to dissolve parliament and hold elections on May 21. He told President Katerina Sakellaropoulou that parliament will be dissolved on April 23.

The election comes weeks after the aftermath of a deadly train crash which has shaken the country. Mitsotakis visited the president and officially delivered the government's act, proposing the dissolution of the parliament. Sakellaropoulou said she hoped for a "calm and fruitful" pre-election period.
