A spokesperson at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said an officer removed the carcass of a great white shark from a beach on the south shores of Long Island Thursday. The shark is believed to be the same one that was seen on the shores of a beach in Village of Quogue, just west of Southampton, where the carcass was reportedly found the following day.

An environmental conservation officer and city employees removed the great white shark from the beach and sent it to DEC Marine Resources staff for testing, according to the spokesperson. The shark was approximately 6.5 feet in length and weighed about 250 pounds. The cause of death is unknown, but test results could reveal more information.
