






Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar on 21st December organized a commemorative ceremony for the Great Victory Day, marking the emergence of sovereign Bangladesh on December 16, 1971.
The Bangladeshi Ambassador to Myanmar welcomed the attendees at the reception and gave an opening remark.
Ambassador, Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain, Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar, said “Today we’re celebrating our victory day. On 16th December 1971, Bangladesh got independence from the occupation of Pakistan. On this special occasion, Bangladesh people become very jubilant, they go to the memorial and they laid flower wreaths to the memorial.”
The Great Victory Day is observed annually in Bangladesh on December 16, laying wreaths at memorials to pay homage to the martyrs, hoisting the national flag atop government, semi-government and private offices and autonomous bodies across the country. Moreover, important buildings and establishments are illuminated at night.
Ambassador, Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain, Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar said “The President of Bangladesh hosted reception, people go the war memorial to remember their heroes. So, this way we celebrate this day with lots of enjoyment and enthusiasm.”
As Bangladesh and Myanmar are closed neighbours, sharing common border, the Bangladeshi Ambassador expressed Myanmar-Bangladesh people to people cooperation which has been existed since 1972.
Ambassador, Dr. Md. Monwar Hossain, Bangladesh Embassy in Myanmar said “We cooperate in every sector in connectivity, in culture and other areas, for example in education and health. In the future, Bangladesh looks forward to the neighbours with the offer of friendship, mutual respects, common understanding, dialogue and constructive cooperation. So, the two countries cooperate together based on this principle. And, the future between the two countries will be very good for the prosperity of our two nations.”
The celebration features the performances of dance troupes from Yangon University of Arts and Culture and traditional dance troupes of Bangladesh.
