The government shutdown continues after the US Senate failed Monday to approve a Republican spending bill. The bill received 52 votes but needed 60 for approval. US President Donald Trump indicated Monday that he would be willing to strike a deal with Democrats on health care subsidies, the main sticking point between the two parties.

Trump added however, that the Democrats would first have to open the government. Hundreds of thousands of US government workers have been furloughed for almost a week due to the shutdown.
