Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (MYSAP) launched nutrition awareness campaign in Kengtung of Shan State on 12th June as part of its objective to enhance the nutritional impact of aquaculture.
The campaign aims to promote the advantages of fish consumption, knowledge about the importance of a diverse diet and fish as an animal protein source.
Director, Department of Fisheries (Shan State), Tin Htun Linn said “This campaign is part of the Myanmar Sustainable Aquaculture Programme (MYSAP) which is five-year programme implemented by the Ministry of Fisheries and GIZ. It’s funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development.”
With the theme “Go Further with Fish”, the campaigns will be held at the basic education high schools in Shan State, Sagaing, Mandalay, Ayeyawaddy and Yangon Regions from June to December.
More than 250 students from No. (3) B.E.H.S of KengTung actively participate in nutrition related edutainment programs.
Director, Department of Fisheries (Shan State), Tin Htun Linn said “We selected KengTung and PangLong as project areas in Shan State, and today we are celebrating the campaign at B.E.H.S (3) in KengTung. With the aim to get nutrition awareness, the topics on basic nutrition facts, nutrition values of fish and knowledge about food nutrition were disseminated through edutainment programs, activities, quiz show and cooking demonstrations.”
This is the second time of MYSAP's nutrition program. Last year campaigns reached out to more than 2000 students from Keng Tong, Pathein, Kale, Shwe Bo, Amarapura and Pathein.
