GMS Ministerial Conference: Myanmar hosts 26th Conference in Nay Pyi Taw

Myanmar hosted the 26th Greater Mekong Subregion Ministerial Conference on Friday at Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The Conference was chaired by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Kan Zaw with informal meeting and plenary meeting.

In the plenary meeting focusing on Preparation of a Innovation Strategy for GMS 2030, the Union Minister led the discussion and attendees made discussions on objectives set for the strategy, guidance and recommendations on areas of work and priority issues and factors that can be implemented on the innovation strategies.

In the same meeting for Strengthening the Engagement of the Local Government in GMS, discussions were made for inclusive and open platform, active cooperation and evaluation and review of the conditions of governmental cooperation.

The theme of the 26th Greater Mekong Subregion Ministerial Conference is ‘Building a Strong and Cohesive GMS Community with a Shared Future towards Resilient Economic Development’. This Conference also discussed developments and progress status of the ongoing projects.

Attendees also approved the Concept note on the GMS Innovation Strategy for Development and recorded the Scoping Study on Enhancing Digitalization in the GMS, Ongoing Study to Enhance the Role of Private Sector in the GMS Program and Ongoing Study to Strengthen Local Governments’ Engagement in the GMS Program.

The Conference ended with approving the Joint Ministerial Statement. The Conference was attended by 80 representatives from Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Viet Nam together with Myanmar officials.

It’s reported that the representatives during the trip in Myanmar visited the Maravijaya Buddha Image and Gems Museum in Nay Pyi Taw and Shwedagon Pagoda and Botathaung Pagoda in Yangon.
