German Chancellor Scholz visits flood-hit area after heavy rain in Saarland region

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday visited a flood-hit area in the southwestern German state of Saarland, after heavy rain swamps streets and buildings and forces evacuations. No deaths were reported but at least one person was injured.

Hundreds of emergency service workers were still on the ground helping with the clean-up.  Heavy rains caused flooding in parts of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands overnight into Saturday, swamping streets and buildings and sparking evacuations.
