Geographical Indications: MOC organizes an awareness session on GIs

On 20th March, an awareness session on Geographical Indications-GIs was held with the attendance of the Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn in Nay Pyi Taw.

In his opening speech, the Union Minister highlighted the efforts being made for the development of intellectual property rights system to boost nation’s economic sector as well as the tasks undertaking to raise awareness about GIs protection among public and to ensure seamless GIs registration process.

The GIs protection is a powerful business tool to enhance the quality of domestic products as well as to help them penetrate the international market. He also outlined the benefits of intellectual property rights, supporting the development of MSME sector.

He called for concerted efforts of the departmental officials and entrepreneurs to accelerate GIs registration process. It was followd by the clarifications on GIs implementations and sector-wise discussions of the attendees.
