GAVI meeting: MoH UM attended the meeting via online

Union Minister of Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win participated in a discussion led by the Indonesian Minister of Health, H.E. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, alongside health ministers from member countries of the World Health Organization’s Southeast Asia Regional Office (SEARO) and Western Pacific Regional Office (WPRO), as well as the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (Gavi) On October 14 through Video Conferencing System.

The meeting focused on the vaccination initiatives planned for the 2026-2030 period.The meeting began with the opening remarks from the Indonesian Health Minister H.E. Budi Gunadi Sadikin of and Gavi’s Chief Country Delivery Officer, Mr. Thabani Maphosa.

Next, the responsible officials from Gavi presented the goals and processes of their five-year strategic plan for vaccination from 2026 to 2030 to the attendee health ministers.In his remarks, Union Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win stated that Myanmar would actively collaborate in Gavi’s five-year strategic plan (2026-2030), Myanmar currently administers 13 types of vaccines to children nationwide, with eight vaccines funded by the national budget and six supported by Gavi.

He also highlighted that Myanmar has achieved 88% coverage in vaccinating girls aged 9 to 10 against cervical cancer. The Union Minister further mentioned that the government invests significant foreign currency annually in national vaccination programs and requested Gavi’s continued technical support.

Health ministers and deputy ministers from member countries including Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Cambodia shared their views and recommendations during the discussions. Officials from Ministry of Health also attended the meeting, it’s learnt.
