






A work coordination meeting on Gasifier technology was convened at Department of Small and Medium Enterprises Development in Yangon Region on Saturday.
In his opening speech, Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than said that encouragement has to be made to the entrepreneurs who engaged in the power generation not only for the use of their enterprises, but also for the public use power distribution in the Off Grid areas.
He mentioned that in Myanmar, the Rice Husk Gasifiers have been widely used in rural electrification and small and medium enterprises since 1995. As of June 2023, out of the enterprises registered at Directorate of Industrial Supervision and Inspection under the Ministry of Industry, 412 enterprises are operating with the use of rice husk power, and generate a total of 43,631 KW power electricity.
The Gasifier power has been widely used mostly in Ayeyawady Region, followed by Sagaing Region. But it was found that there are requirements for the environmental and occupational public health sectors.
The Union Minister called for collaborative effort in provision of technological assistance by industrialists, chemists and electricians for regular operation of gasifiers without causing any environmental damage.
Then, the Vice Chairman of the Myanmar Engineering Council clarified about the plans to establish the Myanmar Gasifier Working Group. And, a member of the chemical engineering association reported the technical assistance for gasifier-used factories and workshops.
The attendees gave suggestions based on the presentations and the ceremony was concluded with the closing remark by the Union Minister. In the afternoon, the Union Minister visited the Ayeyawady oil mill in Hlaingthaya Township and Padamyar oil mill in Shwepyitha Township.
The operation, raw materials availability and domestic oil sales were reported by the entrepreneurs. And then, the Union Minister inspected the step-by step grinding process of oil seeds.
