The head of France's largest trade union on Tuesday called for mediation to discuss the government's pension reform, as France prepares for another day of nationwide protests against the retirement age rising from 62 to 64.

Speaking on France Inter radio on Tuesday morning, Laurent Berger, the head of the CFDT union said the government should put the retirement reform on hold. France is bracing for another day of widespread strikes and protest against President Emmanuel Macron's controversial reform, which his government pushed through without a vote two weeks ago.
