French Senate passes government pension reforms

The French Senate on Saturday evening voted in favour of the government's controversial pension reform bill.

The Senate, which is dominated by members of the Republicans party, has been pushing for years to raise the minimum retirement age. It followed another protest on Saturday in Paris aimed at pushing the government to withdraw the unpopular plan to raise the age from 62 to 64.
