French President meets Mayotte residents as Indian Ocean tour begins

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mayotte on Monday, beginning a five-day tour of the Indian Ocean. His visit comes four months after Cyclone Chido devastated the French overseas territory in December.

In the town of Tsingoni, Macron met with residents and officials to discuss recovery efforts. The tour will continue with stops in Réunion, Madagascar, and Mauritius, focusing on regional cooperation, climate resilience, and France’s strategic presence in the region.
