The French Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte Suffered Substantial Damage

The French Indian Ocean territory of Mayotte suffered substantial damage after being hit by Cyclone Chido on Saturday, December 14.

According to the French Weather Authority, the power of the cyclone was the strongest to hit the island nation in over 90 years.

The cyclone prompted the highest possible weather warning, violet. French Interior Minister said the damage was “extensive” and announced that forces were being deployed to affected areas. At least two people were killed in Petite-Terre, the small island east of Mamoudzou.
