Mexico conferred its highest award for foreign nationals on Monday to French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian for strengthening ties between the two countries.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador conferred the Order of the Aztec Eagle on Le Drian during a ceremony at the National Palace in Mexico City. Le Drian was instrumental in the loan of pre-Hispanic pieces currently on display at the Mexican Museum of Anthropology as part of the Grandeur of Mexico exhibition commemorating Mexico's independence.

Later Monday, he and Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard signed a joint declaration on access to reading.  At the ceremony, Le Drian presented two versions of the Little Prince book translated into the native Mayan and Tének languages.
