France's Parliament on Wednesday adopted a landmark bill that legalizes medically assisted dying for terminally ill adults. The legislation allows eligible patients facing incurable illnesses to self-administer lethal medication, or receive help from a medical professional if physically unable.

Although strongly backed by President Emmanuel Macron, the bill faced pushback from the Senate and conservative politicians. Consequently, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu submitted the bill to the Constitutional Council for a compliance review, which has a month to evaluate the legislation.
