France's Minister for Ecological Transition meets Chinese counterpart in Beijing

Agnes Pannier-Runacher, France's Minister for Ecological Transition, is meeting her Chinese counterparts in Beijing, marking the first visit by a French environment minister to China in five years. The minister said the EU, China, and France must demonstrate "stability, commitment and responsibility on climate issues".

The visit precedes a series of critical events, including the COP30 climate summit, the UN Ocean Conference and August negotiations on an international treaty to combat plastic pollution. Pannier-Runacher, who will talk with the Chinese environment and natural resources ministers, as well as former special envoy for climate change Xie Zhenhua, will discuss how to "push this issue" when nations meet in Brazil in November at the COP30 summit.
