Former Peruvian President Fujimori dies

Peru's former president Alberto Fujimori died on Wednesday at the age of 86 in the capital Lima, his daughter Keiko made the announcement on social media.

Fujimori was the first Peruvian president of Japanese descent and led a rescue operation in a hostage incident that happened in 1996 at the Japanese ambassador's residence. Sources close to his family earlier Wednesday that his health had deteriorated rapidly after completing treatment for tongue cancer in August.
