Mounting inflation in Argentina has rendered pensions insufficient, with retirees struggling to buy even basic items throughout the month.Tabletop games and a snack shared twice a week in a recreational retirement center are small comforts for senior citizens in a middle-class neighborhood in Buenos Aires.

More than 85% of retirees in Argentina receive an average of 265 dollars each month. This is the equivalent of the minimum pension and below the poverty wage, barely enough to cover a third of many people's basic monthly expenses.Official inflation numbers reported Friday showed an increase of 7.7% during March. Annual inflation rose to 105%.Monthly payments have increased to accommodate the crisis, but inflation is always ahead of it.The government has ordered an additional monthly subsidy of 67 dollars, which is still insufficient.
