The opening ceremony of ASEAN Food Festival -2019 was held at Mandalay Convention Center on Thaikpan Road, Mandalay in the morning on Saturday and the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi opened the festival by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Also present at the occasion were the vice president U Henry Van Thio, union ministers, chief minister of Mandalay region, speaker of regional parliament, the ambassadors and diplomats from the ASEAN and partner countries, departmental officials, responsible officials from Myanmar Travel Entrepreneurs Association, Myanmar Restaurant Association, regions and states Restaurant Associations, food exhibitors and invited guests.
At the ceremony, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Vice President U Henry Van Thio, Union Minister for Hotel and Tourism U Ohn Maung, Chief Minister of Mandalay Region Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, Patron of the Diplomatic Corps in Myanmar, ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar Mr. Pehin Dato Rahmani DatoBasir on behalf of the embassies of ASEAN countries opened the ASEAN Food Festival -2019 by cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
Next, the state counsellor, vice president and party observed the food and souvenirs booths displayed by the ministry of religious affairs and culture, ministry of hotel and tourism, ASEAN countries, Japan, China, Republic of Korea and India, regions and states Restaurant Associations and Myanmar Hotelier Association. In his opening remark at the ceremony, the union minister for international cooperation U Kyaw Tin said that the festival aiming at the development of culinary tourism by introducing the Asian culinary cuisines and Myanmar traditional foods, Myanmar and globe trotters to enjoy the variety of tastes of regional foods at one place and promoting tourism industry during the green season of Myanmar.
Then, on behalf of the embassies of ASEAN countries, Patron of the Diplomatic Corps in Myanmar, ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Myanmar delivered a remark. Later, the state counsellor, vice president, union ministers, chief minister of Mandalay region, speaker of regional parliament, ambassadors of ASEAN countries and officials took a documentary photo together with the responsible persons from the organizations organized the festival.
Later, the state counsellor and party observed the demonstration of family dinner with Myanmar traditional large dinning tray which was used by rich and rural families in their daily lives in Yatanapon era.
Next, the state counsellor cordially greeted the exhibitors in ASEAN Food Festival and looked around the display booths. Afterwards, the state counsellor and party left Mandalay by special flight through Mandalay International Airport situated in TataOo Township and arrived back at Nay Pyi Taw in the afternoon.
