Fluorescent garments shine in La Paz catwalk

Indigenous Aymara women paraded Friday night in the Bolivian capital La Paz, wearing their traditional multicolored clothing and some taking a step further with fluorescent garments.

Colombian designer Laura Laurens, who created some of the pleated dresses and ponchos, said she was impressed by the local design.

Nearly 70 women paraded in the catwalk over a closed street in the city center, in an event celebrating the 474th anniversary of La Paz foundation. Rodney Miranda, Secretary of Culture of La Paz, said the parade was also a celebration of the "strength and power" of the Cholitas, Indigenous women.
