The record rainfall in California has soaked its steep hillsides, causing hundreds of landslides and heightening the threat to communities.
So far, the state has not seen another tragedy like the one in 2018 when mudslides roared through Montecito, killing 23 people and wiping out 130 homes. As the rain continued to flood roads across San Diego County Monday morning, multiple reports of water rescues have occurred.
The majority of those rescues happened in the Mission Valley area, which is prone to flooding. At least seven different water rescues San Diego first responders performed. In Berkeley Hills, about 10 homes have been evacuated due to a mudslide on Monday morning and residents of nearby neighborhoods have been warned to prepare to leave quickly if needed, fire officials told KGO.
