





During the monsoon season from the period of June to October, severe floods occurred due to the intense heavy rainfall in many parts of Myanmar.
Also in Magway region, 73 basic education high schools were temporarily closed due to the floods along the Ayeyawaddy River. Special measures are being undertaken to recover learning losses for students during the natural disaster and not to be delayed in learning.
In some townships in Magway Region, 125 basic education schools were temporarily closed due to inundation since 19th August. Currently, 52 schools were resumed and the rest remained temporarily closed till September 14th.
Director, Region Education Office, Thet Lay Oo said "A total of 125 schools were closed due to severe flood. Currently, 7 townships closed to the Ayeyarwaddy River have affected by flood. During these years, we experienced the natural flood disasters and already prepared for the emergency response measures to tackle this issue. And, we will pay special emphasis to prevent learning losses for the students."
Due to the inundation along the Ayeyawaddy River, schools in Magway, Yenanchaung, Chauk, Minbu, Pwintbyu, Salin and Kanma Township were temporarily closed. Aiming not to lose learning opportunities for students during the school closure, school lessons were scheduled to be conducted during the school holidays.
In Magway Region, more than 550,000 students are learning peacefully at more than 3,300 basic education schools in the 2023-2024 academic year, it’s learnt.
