Floods in Kachin State: Impacts of inundation along Ayeyawady River

Since the 30th of June, Kachin State has been facing inundation due to record breaking surge of Ayeyawady River, caused by heavy rains. Nawngtalaw Mid-River Island is among the affected area.

On 10th of July, Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nan made inspection on the inundation along Ayeyawady River and Nawngtalaw Island by speed boats. During the inspection, the Chief Minister provided necessary instructions on clearing the tree trunks stranded on the island due to flood, conducting ground survey for the construction of retaining walls and gates according to water flow and met with the loal residents and coordinated requirements. 

The Chief Minister also inspected the surge of water level along the retaining walls of the river banks in Myikyina township. On arrival at Si Pin Tha Yar Jetty, they made assessment for replanting to the flood affected seedlings and the silted soils along river banks.
